History:
Trailbreaker/Trailcutter on the TF Wiki (IDW Generation I only)Personality:Trailcutter, on the outside, appears to be a rather chipper Autobot. He’s upbeat, supportive, and generally an all-around nice guy. He loves a good time just like anyone else and is the type to try and lighten up a situation when things seem grim. If you need some cheering up, he’ll be there to try and make you see things in a better light, or even just to raise your mood a little. It’s not overly so--he’s not obnoxious in the least about it--but he has a talent for looking on the brighter side…
...at least when it comes to other people.
Underneath all the jokes and good times, there’s a darker side to himself. What he shows outwardly to the people around him, he reserves his pessimism for himself. Low-self esteem is the bot’s biggest enemy, and boy does it hit heavily. Because of his forcefield powers, he’s been ridiculed as an outsider before the four million year war, and during it, he’s only been known for that power. It’s become a curse to him, basically, with the title ‘one-trick-pony’ not-so-lovingly attached to him. Really, it’s enough to make anyone hate their gift. And because he’s become so synonymous with it, self-eseteem is shot down along with it.
To add to that, like any normally sane person, he’s known to be extremely pessimistic and, dare I say it, gloomy when thrust into situations that seem undesirable. He’s used to being left out of a lot of things, or at least left out of recognition, so it takes a damper on him. For as optimistic as he can be about goals, he’s incredibly hard on himself. And the general environment the usually lives in doesn’t let him forget it.
If it ever gets bad, he’s been known to show bits of jealousy to other bots from his world (like Fortress Maximus, who’s infinitely more respected than he is). However, this is usually only when he’s drunk that he’s open about this. Most of the time it’s kept to himself.
To sum it up, he’s a good guy, who really wants what’s best for his friends and your traditional Autobot. However, whatever high opinion he has of the cause/friends is completely opposite of what he thinks of himself.
Strengths:Like most unicorns, Trailcutter will have the ability to make things levitate with his unicorn horn. This is seemingly universal with all unicorns, so I won’t touch on it too much.
Trailcutter’s biggest strength and magical ability is probably his forcefield. In robot form, it comes out of his hands, generated through them using his Energon reserves. Thankfully, it’ll be translated into Unicorn magic here, and will be his special talent. They’re fairly strong, able to completely stop two missiles and encasing their explosions, but they can only be held up for a limited time (depending on what exactly he’s forcefielding against, of course).
It’s not really to the level of his ‘special talent’ unicorn spell, but he has special horseshoes on his hooves that react specifically to a magnetic spell. This allows him to cement himself to any metal surface and walk along it. Granted it’s probably not very useful in this situation, where everything is dirt, but Trailcutter isn’t exactly the epitome of conventional.
Being a workhorse build, he’s definitely got the strength to back it up. He’s great for heavy lifting/pulling, and any really heavy workload is no big deal for him. It’s nothing out of the ordinary, but he’ll be stronger than the average mare/stallion.
Finally, Trailcutter, while exceptionally down on himself, usually is happy to help anyone out, and his longevity is to be commended. No matter what’s thrown at him, he always seems to get back up (not on the horse, because he is one here!). He’s an Autobot through and through, and that includes helping them out, as well as non-Autobot types.
Weaknesses:There is a downside to his forcefield (although it might not be a big one) aside from its limited time use. Since in canon, it’s directly taken from his Energon reserves (basically, his lifeblood and food source), I’m going to make him have a voracious appetite. It’s not so much a weakness as it is an inconvenience to everyone around him, but his forcefields won’t be nearly as strong if he’s starving/hungry/etc.
Perhaps the biggest weakness he has is his own self-esteem. Back in his world, having a power that didn’t coincide with your altmode left for you to be chastised and looked down upon (ala ‘X-men’ style), and often made you an outcast. Trailcutter is no exception to this rule, and as such, it’s given him a terrible opinion of himself. As optimistic as he may be outwardly towards people (given the situation), he doesn’t think much of himself, and it can put a damper on his own abilities and outlook. He’s not exactly looking for a backpat or sympathy, it’s just four million years of being prodded at by both sides of a heavily irrelevant talent.
Trailcutter’s vehicle mode is slow, so I’ve carried it over into his workhorse build. He’s going to be rather strong for a unicorn, being able to cart around things all too easily, however he won’t be the fastest horse on four legs, so don’t expect him to win any races anytime soon (unless he’s up against, say...kittens.) Basically, what he lacks in dash speed he’ll make up in pure strength, because for a truck he’s pretty heavy duty.
Possessions: The only possessions he’ll have with him are a pair of orangeish red wrap-around goggles (that somehow stay on despite not having any support), orange horseshoes that can be magnetized, and a giant scarf around his neck that looks like his chestplate.
Pony/Animal Type: Unicorn, but with an Earthpony/Workhorse build.
Cutie Mark: Five hexagons connected in a ‘weblike’ pattern. It’s basically what his forcefield looks like close up.

SAMPLESFirst Person:Uh...Hey! Is this thing even on?
[Did that sound right to say? They were scrolls after all, but this was clearly a visual-oriented-device. Although that’s the least of his worries. It actually took him about ten minutes to even ‘turn it on’ as it were. Translating hands and feet to hooves had been an experience--one that he’s currently still living to this moment.
It’s almost as if he’s having trouble even standing. The weight distribution was so different than your average vehicle mode, so if you happen to see him tilting to one side or the other, it’s not your scroll. It’s just him failing to pony.]Can anyone tell me what’s going on? More importantly, what AM I? Or at least, what am I
NOW. Because this...this shouldn’t be happening! This is on the top ten list of things that shouldn’t happen, and I don’t even know what it is.
[‘It’ referring to the creature he is, of course. He’s a little freaked out at the moment. Please leave a message after the horse whinny.]Third Person:Remember to practice your forcefields, Trailbreaker! That voice always seemed to ring in his head just before lying down to sleep. Usually it was annoying--a distant reminder of what once was. Shockwave, or at least the one he knew was no more. And yet that voice still seemed to come into existence. And always right before he shut his eyes.
Even now, in Equestria.
It was comforting, a bit. To have that little bit of support. He knew it wasn’t real--that part of his life had been cut out. But it didn’t hurt to escape to that part for a second, did it? It helped get him to calm down, at least. There were Autobots here, although not from the world he knew of. They’d certainly be of some help.
There’s a roll to his other side as he thinks about this. Maybe he could practice it here. It didn’t seem too out of the ordinary. Everypony (did he really just think that word?) seemed to have their own little ‘forcefield’. Heck, it even made him smile just thinking about it.
Shockwave would have had a field day.Yes, that’d be the plan, then.
He nestled into that blanket he’d been given, maybe casting a forcefield around himself to warm up. See that? He’s already getting started. And maybe...just maybe he heard the laugh of that one who always believed in him.
